Join a deposition from your home screen

Written by Skyler Lambert

When another firm hosts a deposition and invites you, you no longer have to create a case and a deposition first just to attend. You can join straight from your home screen with the PIN, and AgileLaw keeps the proceeding for you afterward so you can fold it into your own cases whenever you're ready.

Who can do this: anyone on your account who can create cases. If you don't have that permission, ask an administrator — or join from a case your firm has already set up.

Join with a PIN

  1. On your home screen, click Join a Deposition.

The Join a Deposition button on the home screen, beside New case

  1. Enter the Deposition PIN from the lead counsel or host, then choose Join deposition. (PINs are 9 digits.)

The Join a deposition dialog: enter the Deposition PIN from the lead counsel or host, then Join deposition

  1. You're taken straight into the deposition room.

Find it again under "Unlinked"

After you join, the proceeding is kept for you under Unlinked — a scope on your home case list, next to My Cases and All Cases. Open it to see the proceedings you've joined, each with its current status (Scheduled, In progress, Suspended, or Concluded).

With the scope set to Unlinked, joined proceedings appear as their own rows with a status pill and a ⋮ menu — not as cases

Your Unlinked list shows the proceedings you joined. Administrators can see every joined proceeding on the account — see below.

Turn a proceeding into a case

From the menu on any unlinked proceeding you have two ways to keep it:

  • Convert to case — turn the proceeding into a brand-new case of your own.

  • Merge into a case — move the session and everything in it (exhibits, participants, and transcript) into a case you already have. Pick the destination case, then choose Merge into case.

Merging can't be undone. Once you merge a proceeding into a case, it becomes part of that case for good. Converting to a new case is the safe choice if you're not sure.

For administrators: all joined proceedings

Account administrators can review every proceeding joined from the account under Settings → Cases → Unlinked. Each row shows who joined it (Joined by …), and you can Convert it to a case or Delete it if it's no longer needed.

Deleting a joined proceeding removes your account's copy of it (and its documents). It doesn't end the live session or affect the firm that's hosting it.

Good to know

  • You don't have to keep every proceeding. If nobody on your account turns a joined proceeding into a case, AgileLaw clears it automatically once the hosting firm has wrapped things up — so your list stays tidy on its own.

  • Already have the case? If your firm set up the case, you can also join that deposition from the case's own page — you only need the home-screen Join a Deposition button when the session belongs to another firm.
