Annotate an Exhibit

Written by Skyler Lambert

Open a document, then use the annotation tools in the toolbar at the top of the document viewer. Click a tool to select it, and use the color palette next to it to change the color.

The annotation toolbar, with the color palette open

Comment. Click the Comment tool — your cursor becomes a green marker — then click anywhere on the page to anchor a comment. Type it in the panel to the left of the document. To edit a comment, select it and edit it in that panel; to delete it, click the X on the comment note.

Highlight. Click the Highlight tool and drag over an area of the page to highlight it; pick a color from the palette. To remove a highlight, click the X just above it.

Text highlight. On documents whose text has been recognized (see Search document text), the Text Highlight tool follows the actual words — drag across the text and the highlight snaps to the lines.

Annotations are tied to your account and are visible only to others in your firm. During a deposition, the witness, opposing counsel, court reporter, and other participants can not see them.
